About Spotlight Dance Academy|
SDA teaches dancers the fundamentals and technique of dance in a fun, caring environment. We offer a wide variety of classes to meet all dancers interests for students ages 3 adult at a modern dance studio. For the more serious dancer, we offer a highly accomplished competition program. At Spotlight Dance Academy, we teach more than dance but lessons for life. Your dancer will build character, confidence and poise while taking dance classes combined with excellent dance technique. Our highly experienced and passionate dance instructors provide educational and exciting classes.
Spotlight Dance Academy was founded by Erin Fisk and Tiffany Overlien in 2005 and has been growing ever since! This past year, Tiffany decided to leave Spotlight for personal reasons, so SDA is now under the sole direction of Erin. To help adjust to the change Spotlight has been going through, Amy Kelly was promoted to Studio Manager and Head of the Competition Program.
Spotlight has a Fall/Spring session that lasts from the end of September/early October to the End of May, with a recital to showcase all the accomplishments the dancers have achieved throughout the year. During the summer, we offer various intensives and camps for all ages and levels.
We are conveniently located on the southeast side of Waunakee serving dancers from Wauankee, DeForest, Middleton, Sun Prairie and Madison.
Classes and Programs
Spotlight offers dance classes in ballet, pointe, technique, jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop, combo classes, stretch, conditioning, and hip hop tricks for both girls and boys starting at age three through adult. For dancers looking to take class on a weekly basis and perform at the end of session recital, but not looking to dance at the competitive level, we offer a recreational program with several class options. This program is the heart of our studio as it makes up the majority of our student body. Aside from our bonus classes, all of these perform in our recital and are listed under our class tab. For the more serious dancer, Spotlight is home to one of the most accomplished competitive programs in the area. Our competitive program grows every year and now has three divisions: Performance, Troupe, and Company. The Performance division is for dancers wanting to begin competing, but not wanting to commit to several competitions a year along with other requirements. They attend one competition, potentially one national competition, and one convention throughout the year. The Troupe division is our largest division and is composed of dancers looking to compete at several competitions (3) and potentially one national competition along with attending one convention during the year. The Company division is our highest level division and is for our most serious competitive dancer. In this division, dancers compete at 6 competitions, 2 national competitions, attend 2 conventions, and have the highest amount of class/time requirements. Our new, modern studio is over 9,000 square feet with over 5,000 square feet dedicated to dance space. The studio features raised dance floors, wall to wall mirrors in the dance rooms, two-way viewing windows for parents, waiting rooms, the SDA boutique, a dancers lounge and a staff lounge,
All of our staff are highly trained in their genres of dance and work to help each SDA dancer improve and reach their full potential as dancers. We pride ourselves in employing only the best as a way to provide our students with top of the line instruction and role models for life lessons they can use outside the dance world. Nearly all of our ballet instructors are professional ballet dancers through companies such as Madison Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago. Other staff members continue to grow in their dance experience and knowledge by traveling around the nation taking classes at world renowned studios, such as Los Angeles's Millennium Dance Complex. We take our competitive staff to conventions throughout the season to continually improve their ability to provide the most current trends in dance today.
